"Marhaba -- fellow dancers, musicians, and other interested people!
"I began dancing so long ago that I can not even remember when I started. My Middle Eastern dance experience began when I got involved in a medieval recreationist group called the Society for Creative Anachronism. A woman named Taylitha formed a local "belly dance" guild to research and teach Middle Eastern dance. A year or so later I began taking lessons from Rayah Blackstar who, to our great benefit, moved to Pittsburgh from Ohio. Rayah -- one of the most wonderful dancers and persons I've had the pleasure to know -- gained her knowledge of Middle Eastern dance from a Turkish woman who once lived in the apartment upstairs from her family. The woman, who had no daughters, passed her knowledge of dance on to Rayah. Rayah has been dancing for about as long as I've been alive. "These days Rayah spends more time running around the soccer field than dancing -- but I do see her occasionally (and it is always humbling). I believe that in dance (and life) one can never learn enough. I love dance -- It's one of those few things in my life that is truly pure . When I hear music and I dance I know why I'm alive." You can contact her through email at bellybellygood4u@hotmail.com. Hey folks here are some pictures Eledi sent from a recent trip to India - at a camel fair: |
